From The Hermès Fall-Winter 1999/00 Seasonal Scarf Booklet: This shower of maternal milk, set beyond young Hercules' greedy reach, was eulogised by a poet as "sister to the pale bodies of lovers". An innocent time when girls would not toast themselves on beaches, nor under sun-lamps. Today the sun strikes down and science rules; nobody knows when they will surrender their mysteries to the shades below. But our consolation remains in this myriad of stars, which never ceases to light up our summer nights.
Size Guide
- Twilly: small but mighty, use it like a typical scarf, as a bag handle, as a belt, and more.
- 45cm: this is the typical pocket square size, will fit around the neck like a bandana.
- 55cm: this is the bandana size typically printed in 3 colors to look like a traditional bandana.
- 70cm: this is a great option for petites and they are typically made out of a lighter weight silk than any of the other formats.
- 90cm: this is the classic Hermès scarf size. It's very versatile and if you're looking at any vintage photos, this is the scarf size that's worn.
- 140cm: the largest size of the bunch, almost reaching 5 ft. It's hard to capture the scale in photos but these are incredible as a lightweight shawl in the summer, or folded for a warmer feel in the winter.
- Shawls & Other Sizes: there are a few styles that Hermès does not make every season which are just as lovely and fit into this category.
