Why I Love This Pattern: This scarf is inspired by the book  Hypnerotomachia Poliphili. It's a slightly bizarre, dreamlike book from 1499, and considered one of the most beautiful early printed books. The title roughly translates to The Strife of Love in a Dream, and that’s exactly what it is one long, surreal dream sequence where the main character, Poliphilo, wanders through fantastical landscapes in search of his love, Polia. Along the way, he encounters elaborate architecture, strange rituals, and mythical creatures. The story is a mix of Latin, Italian, and made-up words, making it as mysterious as it is visually stunning. It’s part romance, part fever dream, and part architectural treatise basically, a Renaissance deep dive into love, beauty, and the unconscious mind.
