From The Hermès Fall-Winter 1997/98 Seasonal Scarf Booklet: These are the pleasures indulged in by a beautifully skilful band who circle upon the ice. Framing a ‘Sledge Race in Holland’ (after Carle Vernet), several champions who have escaped from the Vrai Patineur (True Skater), a handbook of 1813 devoted to the practices of those obsessed with ‘the art of skating gracefully; offer us examples of these complex steps and figures, which are named ‘the Adonis’, ‘the Apollo’ or ‘the Reverence’. It’s up to us now to learn our lines!

- Twilly: small but mighty, use it like a typical scarf, as a bag handle, as a belt, and more.
- 45cm: this is the typical pocket square size, will fit around the neck like a bandana.
- 55cm: this is the bandana size typically printed in 3 colors to look like a traditional bandana.
- 70cm: this is a great option for petites and they are typically made out of a lighter weight silk than any of the other formats.
- 90cm: this is the classic Hermès scarf size. It's very versatile and if you're looking at any vintage photos, this is the scarf size that's worn.
- 140cm: the largest size of the bunch, almost reaching 5 ft. It's hard to capture the scale in photos but these are incredible as a lightweight shawl in the summer, or folded for a warmer feel in the winter.
- Shawls & Other Sizes: there are a few styles that Hermès does not make every season which are just as lovely and fit into this category.
