From The Hermès Spring-Summer 2019 Seasonal Scarf Booklet: "My cocoon tightens, colors tease, / I'm feeling for the air; / A dim capacity for wings / Degrades the dress I wear," wrote Emily Dickinson. For Alice Shirley, a natural history enthu-siast, these words by the great 19th-century American poet breathed life into these "easy sweeps of sky". A butterfly and a bird are expressed only by multicoloured motifs, feathers and quills, gliding above a dense, deep forest. Both share the privilege of escaping gravity and displaying the most beautiful natural ornamentation. Who has not, at least for a night, felt what it is like to fly over the treetops and to look down on the earth from the sky? An uplifting dream.

Size Guide
- Twilly: small but mighty, use it like a typical scarf, as a bag handle, as a belt, and more.
- 45cm: this is the typical pocket square size, will fit around the neck like a bandana.
- 55cm: this is the bandana size typically printed in 3 colors to look like a traditional bandana.
- 70cm: this is a great option for petites and they are typically made out of a lighter weight silk than any of the other formats.
- 90cm: this is the classic Hermès scarf size. It's very versatile and if you're looking at any vintage photos, this is the scarf size that's worn.
- 140cm: the largest size of the bunch, almost reaching 5 ft. It's hard to capture the scale in photos but these are incredible as a lightweight shawl in the summer, or folded for a warmer feel in the winter.
- Shawls & Other Sizes: there are a few styles that Hermès does not make every season which are just as lovely and fit into this category.
