From The Hermès Fall/Winter 1992/93 Seasonal Scarf Booklet: Can a sailor, who achieves glory by confronting that terrible element, the ocean, retain his youthful naivety? Of course. Daily contact with the power of nature makes the human soul ingenuous, and those rough seamen who made a living on sailing ships spent their leisure time doing a young girl's work: they embroidered. These lovely seascapes in cotton and thread prove that men as tough as leather can work delicate magic with their fingers.

Size Guide
- Twilly: small but mighty, use it like a typical scarf, as a bag handle, as a belt, and more.
- 45cm: this is the typical pocket square size, will fit around the neck like a bandana.
- 55cm: this is the bandana size typically printed in 3 colors to look like a traditional bandana.
- 70cm: this is a great option for petites and they are typically made out of a lighter weight silk than any of the other formats.
- 90cm: this is the classic Hermès scarf size. It's very versatile and if you're looking at any vintage photos, this is the scarf size that's worn.
- 140cm: the largest size of the bunch, almost reaching 5 ft. It's hard to capture the scale in photos but these are incredible as a lightweight shawl in the summer, or folded for a warmer feel in the winter.
- Shawls & Other Sizes: there are a few styles that Hermès does not make every season which are just as lovely and fit into this category.
