About This Pattern: The Fondation Jean-Félicien Gacha in Cameroon houses a significant collection of Ndop textiles, which inspire this carré by Anamorphée. Created by the Bamileke people of central Africa, these textiles are made from cotton woven into narrow strips in northern Cameroon before Bamileke women apply raffia-thread designs, reserve-dyed in indigo. Their patterns draw from traditional home decorations and Nigerian Wukari drawings, where the tradition likely originated. While Cameroonian Ndop textiles feature abstract motifs, Nigerian versions often depict human figures, lizards, and leopards, with both used in various rituals.
