Why I Love This Pattern: Sarasvati is first known as a Hindu goddess of knowledge, music, and the arts, but before that, she was the personification of a sacred river. The Sarasvati River, located in what is now northwestern India and parts of eastern Pakistan is mentioned throughout the Rigveda. It is described as flowing between the Yamuna and the Sutlej. Later texts like the Mahabharata recount how the river eventually dried up in the desert. A small present-day river called the Sarsuti, which joins the Ghaggar, is thought to be its remnant. Over time, the river’s divine presence grew into the revered goddess we know today.
Size Guide
- Twilly: small but mighty, use it like a typical scarf, as a bag handle, as a belt, and more.
- 45cm: this is the typical pocket square size, will fit around the neck like a bandana.
- 55cm: this is the bandana size typically printed in 3 colors to look like a traditional bandana.
- 70cm: this is a great option for petites and they are typically made out of a lighter weight silk than any of the other formats.
- 90cm: this is the classic Hermès scarf size. It's very versatile and if you're looking at any vintage photos, this is the scarf size that's worn.
- 140cm: the largest size of the bunch, almost reaching 5 ft. It's hard to capture the scale in photos but these are incredible as a lightweight shawl in the summer, or folded for a warmer feel in the winter.
- Shawls & Other Sizes: there are a few styles that Hermès does not make every season which are just as lovely and fit into this category.
