Why I Love This Pattern: Steeplechase racing is said to have started in 18th-century Ireland, when two riders, each convinced his horse was the best, challenged each other to a race from one church steeple to another. No course, no track, just open countryside, fences, hedges, stone walls, and streams. The tradition was formalized in England a century later, but that original sense of wild challenge is what inspired Virginie Jamin’s design. In her motif, jockeys and horses charge around the border like game pieces.
