From The Hermès Fall-Winter 1993/94 Seasonal Scarf Booklet: "We are looking for hardy riders, preferably orphans, who will risk their lives once or twice a day", said the posters of the Pony Express, the postal system that linked Missouri to California from April 1860 to October 1861, the day the telegraph, which made the company obsolete, was put into service. Afterwards the job of mailman became easier. It was only the recipient's patience that was sometimes put to the test.
Size Guide
- Twilly: small but mighty, use it like a typical scarf, as a bag handle, as a belt, and more.
- 45cm: this is the typical pocket square size, will fit around the neck like a bandana.
- 55cm: this is the bandana size typically printed in 3 colors to look like a traditional bandana.
- 70cm: this is a great option for petites and they are typically made out of a lighter weight silk than any of the other formats.
- 90cm: this is the classic Hermès scarf size. It's very versatile and if you're looking at any vintage photos, this is the scarf size that's worn.
- 140cm: the largest size of the bunch, almost reaching 5 ft. It's hard to capture the scale in photos but these are incredible as a lightweight shawl in the summer, or folded for a warmer feel in the winter.
- Shawls & Other Sizes: there are a few styles that Hermès does not make every season which are just as lovely and fit into this category.
