From The Hermès Fall-Winter 2015/16 Seasonal Scarf Booklet: As a schoolgirl, Alice Shirley learned the poem The Tyger, written in 1794 by the English painter William Blake. Poetry has the power to be etched forever onto the hearts of children, and this young woman, now an illustrator, has turned the poem into an exquisitely tender design. Under a star-filled sky, a tiger of majestic gentleness reposes on a bed of flowers. Alice Shirley regularly works with the Natural History Museum in London whose library houses an excellent collection of botanical plates commissioned by the East India Company. There, she discovered the plants of the Periyar Tiger Reserve in India, and used them for inspiration to draw the feline in its natural habitat.

From The Hermès Fall-Winter 2025 Collection Website Description: "Tyger! Tyger! Burning bright, in the forests of the night" The lines of William Blake's poem that Alice Shirley learned by heart at school come to life in her design featuring a majestically gentle tiger. Combining her childhood memories with her talent, the British artist specialized in the animal world drew inspiration from a magnificent collection of botanical illustrations at London's Natural History Museum to offer this grandiose feline the multicolored flowers and plants of its Perivar reserve in India. A bouquet of poetry and tenderness.
