Stirring memories in the streaming wake of those great ships of the 19th century portrayed by Cornelis de Vries: "Flying Cloud", "Chesapeake", "Thermopylae"... The ring of ships encloses an astrolabe, while the eagles on the figurehead of the American steam-powered frigate "Lancaster" (1881) silently challenge the seabirds for mastery of the waves.
